Dec 20, 2021

How does the new Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 stack up against its predecessor, the Tab 3? We compare the two specifications one by one to see the differences.

If you’re not aware of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 series, it comes in three different screen sizes: 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch. The 7-inch tablet joins the 8-inch and 10.1-inch variants to round up the Tab 4 family.

We don’t expect the Tab 4 to have the same high-end specs as the Tab 3, as these are entry-level or mid-range tablets. If you want a high-end tablet, look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab S (8.4 and 10.5-inch), Galaxy Note 10.1, or Galaxy TabPRO (8.4, 10.1, 12.2-inch). This could be the topic of an upcoming article.

So, how do the old Tab 3 and the new Tab 4 stack up in terms of performance? Let’s look at the screen sizes of each of these tablets.

7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 vs 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 4

At first glance, the new Tab 4 7-inch has the profile of its larger sibling, the Tab 8, with narrow bezels on both long sides providing users with a comfortable grip between their fingers. This also gives the 7-inch device a much-needed makeover to bring it up to date and compete with its rivals.

On the other hand, the screen quality of this small tablet is its most appealing feature. Tab 4 has a WXGA resolution of 1280 x 800, which is higher than Tab 3’s 1024 x 600. In addition, Tab 4 has 1.5GB of additional memory, compared to 1GB on Tab 3. While the old Tab 3 only managed 8 hours of Internet browsing, the Tab 4 managed 10 hours despite the fact that both feature a Li-Ion battery with the same capacity at 4000mAh.

While some may have previously overlooked the 7-inch Tab in favor of the 8-inch Tab due to screen resolution, memory, and size, Samsung has narrowed the gap between the two with the Tab 4, making the decision between the two more difficult.

If you prefer a small screen and a thin body for portability, the new Tab 4 7-inch is the tablet for you. It comes with plenty of memory and processing power.
